Serena Lederer represents the third large format lady portrait of Gustav Klimt. Serena Lederer was a Grande Dame of Viennese society. Serena Lederer (born Pulitzer) was married to the industrialist August Lederer. The Lederers were one the laeding patron of Klimt and Schiele. The portrait of Sereana Lederer was most likely commissioned by her self. The white background gives no hints on the personality of Serena. Only her white flowing dress is evidence that she was a modern woman at the turn of the century in Vienna.
